My daughter called to tell us she was coming up on Sunday to watch the Super Bowl with us. HH isn’t that much into sports. Once in a great while, he watches LeBron James play basketball and occasionally, he’ll watch a golf tournament, but that’s about it. I don’t even know the teams that are playing in this year’s Super Bowl. Neither does he. But we used to faithfully give a big get-together for the boys and their friends for the Super Bowl, and I cooked tons of food. Teenage and early 20 boys can wipe out a tabletop of goodies.
We hadn’t expected to see anyone this year. Both of our grandsons live in Indianapolis now, and I’m guessing they’ll do their own thing. But all of a sudden, our daughter’s coming, and I feel like I should do something to make it special. We had my sister over for a visit last weekend, and I made one of her favorites–tons of little meatballs with caramelized onions in toasted hot dog buns. And I don’t want to look at another meatball right now. Since Holly’s coming, I invited my sister over for the evening, too, and she won’t eat any meat that has bones in it. Don’t ask, but that means buffalo wings won’t do it for her. I’ve decided to make buffalo chicken flatbreads instead and air-fryer beef satays, along with tzatziki sauce and a spinach/artichoke dip with pita. That should feel a little party-like without being tons of work.
I’m scheduling this post now which means it will come out AFTER Super Bowl, but I hope if you’re a football fan, you had a great time!
I just made meatballs last night. (I’m sure you didn’t want to hear that.)
I usually watch the Super Bowl, but I had zero interest this year. Didn’t see a second of it. We used to have big bashes, too, but now no one was here and there was nothing to do. I may have had leftovers that night. I can’t remember.
I hope you had a nice visit with your daughter and sister. The menu sounds yummy

We wouldn’t have watched it either until Holly decided to come up from Indy. My sister knows less about sports than we do, and we’re pitiful. She’d have loved your meatballs, though. They’re some of her favorites. Whenever I make them, I send some to her house. I’m not sure she’s ever met a meatball she doesn’t like:)

We always said my mom made the best meatballs. We all follow her recipe, and we come close, but we never quite achieve her level.
Your sister’s always welcome, if she wants to make the drive. (As are you.)

The food sounds good. I put the game on in the background, but I’m kind of over all sports at the moment. Too much politicizing everything and trash talk to deal with.

We only sort of watch the game and mostly gossip. Holly’s a big Rihanna (sp?) fan, so wanted to see the half show, but for us, it’s mostly about fun.

I hope you had fun. The food sounds wonderful. Hubby and I enjoyed the day together. I’m still waiting for the Monday after the Super Bowl to be declared a holiday!

I think Monday should be a day off. Most of America watches the Super Bowl:) Cross your fingers and hope some politician who needs votes thinks of that!

Staci, I bet it’s worth it. But we aren’t big travelers. You won’t have to put up with us, but boy, that would be fun!

So lovely of you to make it a fun evening for your daughter and sister. We invited my dad over since he’s alone now after losing my mom. I think it was my first Super Bowl ever, but like in your home, it was about family, not really about the game. 🙂
